Abstract –

In recent scenario smartphone plays a very important role in our life. As we know smartphones is very useful to solve minor problems. It has made our living life very simple and easier with different social application, commercial application, problem solving application, application for education and marketing etc. In era of technology manual problems can also be done on computer like., records of offices, attendances etc., The suggest system is a combination of two applications, one is useful for generating the QR Code by entering the student details and second application for the attendance and generating the attendance in CSV or XLS format. In order to confirm the attendance of particular students’ teacher will need to scan QR code. The paper discusses how the system verifies student identity to discard false registration. The system deals with the evaluation and management of attendance of all students. The student QR code will be provided to the professor for taking their attendance. The professor handling the subjects is responsible to mark the attendance for all students of the class or group. The attendance will be marked as 1 and 0, 1 for present and 0 for absent in the database of the particular student row in the table. The student attendance reports will be generated in CSV and XLS sheet for the further use. The purpose of this study to report an fully automated student attendance system modelled and developed for use at a Vocational school.


Among the various types of attendance system that have been developed, using log books, fingerprint systems, punch card, barcodes, QR codes and also RFID still cause lots of issues such as providing wrong information to the users. the purpose of the smartphone-based attendance is to provide a smart and easiest way to record and maintain attendance in schools and colleges, the most common devices that have been come into account in marketing and business are smartphone devices. Moreover, it comprises lots of them running Android OS and regular attendance are the prerequisites that are commonly imposed in most schools. They are connected to emerging character behaviours such as initiative, respect, responsibility and integrity. Many established studies have shown that student attendance during lectures have positive correlations with their academic performances Students determine commitment, initiative, respect and responsibility when they are in class and on time, at all times. The less class time students miss or absent, the more likely they will do well academically. In this project, the proposed attendance system is developed by scanning the QR code using the smartphone rear camera. In this project, the proposed attendance system is developed by scanning the QR code using a webcam attached to a computer. Subsequently the data is recorded and deposited in a database for further retrieval and reporting purposes. The Reed Solomon error codes correction is applied to determine the authenticity of the code scanned through the webcam. A report is produced and submitted to the administrator. If there exists a penalty in case attendance percentages fall below 85% set in the school’s policy, a warning letter will be issued to the student.


There are many existing various modes of attendance system applications are used in various conditions such as in colleges, higher institutions. The most notable changes in most educational systems today are the capitalization of technology in managing the attendance of students. Another study which confirmed the presence of a students attending a class was developed using a mobile phone via a Bluetooth connection. It will further query the presence of the student through the transfer of student’s Media Access Control (MAC) address to the instructor’s mobile phone. We noticed that most of proposals do involve applications being used by the instructor during class. Hence, if the attendance system requires some action from the instructor, then the class time will be disturbed each time the instructor allow some late students into the class. On other hand, our proposal does require the instructor to do nothing extra beyond presenting the slides of the course to the students. Hence, students are able to register their presence at any time they wish during the class, while having in mind that registration times are recorded.


This paper has presented an attendance system that utilizes the use of QR code system. The proposed system stores all data repository in a database in a secure and protected database management systems (DBMS) namely the MySQL. In future, we will provide an efficient algorithm to be developed as a networked version without need to install the open source scanning application scanner
